Accountant

We are seeking an accountant to join a collaborative, fun, supportive, yet high performing team who are market leading and award winning. This role is a key member of our team having ownership of Revenue accounting and reporting.

In this role you will be…

  • Introducing and maintaining accounting systems, and advising on the selection and application of computer-based accounting systems. Maintaining integrity of ADP processes. Leading the ADP integration processes, finalising requirements and troubleshooting with Oracle and ADP support teams.
  • Assisting in formulating budgetary and accounting policies. Assisting Sales team with Sales forecast using historical data.
  • Providing assurance about the accuracy of information contained in financials. Maintaining integrity of Balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Maintaining internal control systems for Revenue accounting.
  • Credit control and billing process. Reviewing and approving sales records in Oracle Fusion. Liaising with the central finance team in the UK on payment and billing queries.
  • Supporting and educating all Australian staff on using Oracle Cloud Fusion.
  • Supporting the Financial Controller with month-end processes; including journal entries, bank and account reconciliations.
  • Managing the accounts inbox and being the ‘face of finance' to external suppliers/customers.
  • Preparing and processing documentation related to accounts payable and receivable.
  • Calculating, analysing and investigating the costs of proposed expenditure, wages and standard costs. Summarising expenditure and receipts.
  • Allocating expenditure to specified budget accounts.
  • Processing payment of wages and salaries. Interpreting industrial awards. Creating files for new employees to record payroll data. Maintaining and updating files for existing employees to record information. Providing information to employees and managers about payroll matters such as tax and Superannuation.

You'll bring….

  • Knowledge of finance and accounting principles
  • Experience with Oracle Cloud Fusion (essential)
  • Advance knowledge of Australian payroll and regulatory obligations.
  • Proficiency with business and financial systems and applications - Microsoft Office and Google mail/document management
  • Demonstrated skill with Excel
  • An understanding of the Guardian brand and its editorial integrity
  • 4+ years of accounting/finance experience
  • Experience working in the news, publishing, or media industries desirable
  • Experience working in a global organisation with matrix structures a plus
  • Qualified accountant (CA, CPA or equivalent)
  • Highest level of integrity and personal accountability
  • Time management and ability to meet due dates and deadlines.
  • Strong presentation skills
  • High attention to detail
