We are now looking for a motion graphics designer to join our Social media team in editorial, creating bold, engaging animations for TikTok, Instagram and beyond

If you're creative, collaborative and passionate about visual storytelling, this is your chance to shape how Guardian journalism connects with audiences on the world's biggest platforms.

This is a 12 month fixed term contract or staff secondment.

About the role

  • Collaborate with video producers, social editors, journalists, designers and developers to deliver bespoke, audience-focused visuals.
  • Create and maintain graphics templates for use across the newsroom, ensuring consistency in style, brand and visual reporting.
  • Use creativity and flair to uphold and evolve the Guardian's design standards and visual identity.
  • Stay curious, experiment with new approaches, and help us tell stories in fresh, engaging ways.

About you

  • Demonstrable professional experience of creating high quality motion graphics and animation, translating ideas into engaging, dynamic, visual storytelling with strong use of typography, colour, composition and brand.
  • Demonstrable interest in visualising data and explanatory design, and understanding of how to use animation/motion to simplify complex topics.
  • Experience developing new video formats, styles and guidelines, such as explainers, news video and documentaries.
  • Experience of working collaboratively with video producers, designers and editors.
  • Comfortable in the practical aspects of video production; from concept, to design, to animation, post-production and understanding how to incorporate sound and music.
  • Experience working in a newsroom is an advantage
  • Ideally, you'll have a demonstrable ability to bring a diverse perspective to this role

We actively encourage applications from candidates who are Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) or from other groups traditionally underrepresented in the UK media.
