We are now looking for a Reporter, Race & Equity. The purpose of this role will be to report on race, culture, identity, and inequality on the race and equity desk.

Reports to: Deputy Editor, Race & Equity
Location: New York
Hybrid/Remote/In-Person: Hybrid
Terms and conditions: Full-time, Permanent, News & Media Guild Role
Annual salary range: $99,000 - 105,000
About the role
The reporter will produce stories across a range of topics within the race and equity beat, including culture, the arts, health, education, social justice, LGBTQ+ issues, and politics. This person will be a skilled writer who can pitch and write a combination of breaking news, daily and enterprise feature articles, and human interest stories that provide deep analysis about race.
We're looking for someone keen on exploring the full spectrum of life in America for people of color, with an emphasis on cultural traditions and new trends alike.
Successful candidates will be enterprising and ambitious; they are brimming with ideas on undercovered topics that Guardian US can own.
About you
- Strong track record of writing about race and culture, identity, and inequality issues with nuance
- Expertise in using documents, data, and other journalistic tools to develop and report stories
- Enthusiasm for collaborating with others in the newsroom
- Excellent news judgment and high standards for fair and accurate reporting
- Track record of forming productive relationships with diverse industry organizations, interview subjects, and other contacts
- Ability to generate fresh ideas and angles that appeal to our global readership
