We are looking for a Live Blogger (12 month FTC) to join the Guardian's digital editorial team. Reporting to the head of digital (live) and working closely with digital editors in the UK and US, you will write daily news live blogs for our UK and global audiences. This role is suited to a talented journalist who is quick and creative, and can build a rapport with an engaged online audience.

About the Role

  • Making sure Guardian live blogs are fast and trustworthy, pulling together your own original reporting and analysis, contributions from Guardian colleagues, and updates from wires and other news services
  • Monitoring and verifying external sources such as social media and making effective use of other relevant material, including audio and video
  • Liaising with editors about the focus and headline of a live blog throughout the day, and being able to react speedily to breaking news.
  • Engaging with readers via our community team and incorporating contributions to enrich and inform coverage
  • Ensuring live blog updates are accurate and speedy, and in keeping with Guardian style and tone
  • Showing awareness of media law, and assessing accuracy and risk before publishing
  • Keeping abreast of developments in live blogging, including new techniques, tools and formats
  • Liaising with live bloggers in other offices to ensure smooth handovers

About You

  • Proven experience of working on live news
  • Strong understanding of Guardian live blogging style, format and tone
  • Experience of using web tools
  • Substantial experience of using social internet tools and technologies
  • Audio and video experience desirable
  • Excellent knowledge of news and current affairs
  • Good understanding of media law
  • Ideally you will have a demonstrable ability to bring a diverse perspective to the role

We operate in a hybrid environment working 3 days a week from our offices in Kings Cross and 2 days a week remotely.
