Senior Producer, Today in Focus Extra

We are now looking for a senior producer to work alongside the executive producers of Today in Focus to commission and deliver Today in Focus Extra - a new, 10-minute video podcast published at the end of each day. The senior producer is responsible for overseeing the daily output of Today in Focus Extra

We're on the lookout for creative producers who are passionate about visual storytelling and ready to help shape the future of our visual content for a suite of Guardian podcasts. One of our big ambitions is to take our award-winning podcasts and bring them to life in new engaging, visual formats - whether that's full-length video podcasts, short form social clips, animation, or innovative video storytelling.

This role is a 12 month fixed term contract or staff secondment.

About the role

  • Work directly with the host and video producer to deliver a short daily video podcast
  • Help to oversee guest booking, scriptwriting, episode structuring and edit sessions
  • Help to commission stories and plan team rota, follow legal guidance and sign off editorially
  • Attend and contribute to daily editorial and planning meetings
  • Help create video episode pages with engaging headlines and thumbnails
  • Liaise with desk editors and colleagues (including Today in Focus executives and hosts) across the organisation including the US and Australia
  • Work in conjunction with the Today in Focus team to ensure Today in Focus Extra compliments the Today in Focus output
  • Work with the deputy head and head of audio to continue to grow the ambition of the show
  • You'll have responsibility for managing a small team of producers

About you

  • Experience in radio news, podcasting or broadcast news
  • Experience of editorial decision making on daily podcast/radio shows/broadcast news under tight deadlines
  • Experience of working with hosts / on air talent
  • A passion for global news and an appreciation of the evolving video podcast and social media landscape
  • Experienced in creating daily audio/video output.
  • Experienced with audio / video editing software: able to edit smoothly and accurately at pace
  • Experienced in news and current affairs journalism and popular culture
  • An understanding of Today in Focus and what makes a good story for the show and how to differentiate Today in Focus Extra
  • Management experience preferred but not essential
  • Ideally, you'll have a demonstrable ability to bring a diverse perspective to this role.
