We're now looking for a Programme Manager to join the Guardian's Legacies of Enslavement project on a 2 year fixed term contract. Working closely with the Programme Director and Legacies of Enslavement team, Guardian colleagues and an expert panel of advisers, you will be responsible for coordinating the delivery of the Guardian and Scott Trust's programme of restorative justice in response to links between the founders of the Manchester Guardian and transatlantic slavery.
You will help project-manage and lead on specific areas of the programme, including community engagement and partnerships in Jamaica, with a focus on Hanover parish and Kingston.
About the Role
- Manage an active portfolio of engagement and influencing work in Jamaica, including a focus on Hanover parish, involving community members, civil society organisations, foundations and civic institutions, elected representatives and cultural and heritage organisations
- Identify, build and sustain restorative partnerships as part of a programme of truth-telling, healing and repair. This will include moving money to community-led actors and connecting with other programme geographies on specific cross-cutting thematic areas, such as memorialisation and diasporic connections
- Keep abreast of and disseminate relevant developments across restorative and reparatory justice, and represent the Legacies programme in relevant local, national and regional/Caricom level initiatives and events
- Research, analyse and document programmatic progress and partnerships to ensure effective monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning, and the delivery of impact in line with programmatic and descendant community goals
- Provide ad-hoc project management and coordination support across the team as needed to ensure work is managed in timely and effective ways.
About You
- Extensive experience in programme strategy, implementation and grant management, with a strong track record of impact
- Experience in community engagement or sustainable development work in Jamaica, including organising community consultations and other events
- Empathetic and confident communicator and advocate with experience of engaging communities, civil society partners and government officials alike
- Proven experience of project management, including designing, monitoring and evaluating project plans, budgets, and other tools (preferably with Project Management Professional certification)
- Great research and analysis skills, and the ability to summarise and effectively present complex concepts to a variety of audiences, across diverse formats
- Excellent written communication skills, including writing internal briefings, external reports, website copy, surveys and newsletters
- Comprehensive experience of using Google suite packages and extremely digitally literate
