Digital news producer, international news

We are seeking a Digital news producer who will work closely with our international news team in Sydney. In this role you will produce international stories, liveblog news from the region and beyond, and edit the Guardian homepages (between approximately midnight and 8am UK time, across seven days).
This is a permanent full-time role, working on a seven-day roster with early starts or late finishes. This role is open to candidates based in Sydney.
In this role you will…
- Work with the international news team in Sydney produce key international stories from the Asia-Pacific region, as directed by the International editor in Sydney
- Edit the Guardian's international sites, including UK, US, International and Europe, updating and refreshing as required to keep them relevant to their target audiences
- Monitor the international news wires, UK news outlets, and continuous news channels, in close collaboration with Sydney international team
- Liveblog news from the region and beyond as required and compile news stories in collaboration with the international team in Sydney
- Liaise with the Guardian's global teams including in London and the US
- Work with the international editor and SEO teams to optimise the timing, keywords, page furniture and site placement to maximise traffic
- Ensure all potential legal issues resolved prior to publishing
- Update newslists as required
- Stay up to date on changing style requirements
You'll bring….
Knowledge and experience
- Experience of subbing and digital production
- Experience curating news websites
- Good understanding of international news
- Experience of working in a fast changing and high-pressure environment, preferably on a news website
- Understanding of the unique time pressures involved in digital journalism
- Experience of live blogging and reporting an advantage
- Good understanding of Guardian values
- Good understanding of media law
Skills / behaviours
- A passion for independent journalism and an understanding of our editorial code and values
- Strong digital editing and curation skills
- Excellent production skills with a meticulous eye for detail, grammar and spelling
- Ability to edit copy quickly and accurately under pressure
- Flair for writing headlines and other page furniture
- Excellent planning and organisational skills
- Speed and accuracy
- Diplomatic team player
- Willing to embrace change, show initiative
