Casual Video News and Sports Producers

The Guardian is looking to expand its pool of casual reactive video news and sports producers for occasional shifts in the team producing quick turnaround breaking news video. Our casual video shifts are typically 8 hours, and shifts would be on a freelance basis as needed.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

• Sitting on the breaking news desk producing quick turnaround video clips, news reports, explainers and videos for social media

• Ability to use Adobe Premiere Pro to a high standard

• Some knowledge of Adobe After Effects is advantageous

• Making constant, confident and informed calls on verification and copyright

• Pitching reactive video stories to the editor

• Knowledge, skills and experience

• At least one year experience editing video in a breaking news environment

• Good editorial judgment, writing ability, production skills, strong news sense, knowledge of media law and awareness of tone and sensitivity issues

• Excellent time management, organisational and communication skills

• Resilient and enthusiastic with the ability to juggle multiple deadlines, work under pressure independently and also within a team

• An understanding of the evolving ways people consume news video on and off platform

• Understanding of the editorial aims and values of Guardian News & Media Ltd

• An awareness of the needs and interests of GNM’s audiences
